York County Reads seeks dedicated board members to oversee and help grow our nonprofit. Our mission is to provide no- to low-cost literacy instruction to under-served struggling readers to enable them to become successful readers. We do this through training long-term volunteer tutors in science-based literacy instruction. We have had incredible success so far, but want to have an even greater impact.

We serve students in Rock Hill/ Fort Mill/ Tega Cay/York

The board meets monthly. We ask that you also get involved in awareness events and fundraising. Some skills we are looking for in our new boardmembrs are: board developement, grant writing, fundraising, human resources, volunteer recruitment and development, and a general enthusiasm for literacy and reading!

Description

Teaching struggling students to read is a superpower! York County Reads seeks to train long-term, volunteer tutors to provide literacy instruction to lower income, struggling readers using a multisensory, structured, sequential, evidence-based approach. This approach is great for any struggling reader, not just the dyslexic. York County Reads hopes to change the outlook of many residents of York County in the coming months and years. We believe that, not only the child will be blessed through this program, but the tutors as well.
