Job Description:
Volunteers advocate for children who have been referred to the court system through Child In Need of Care cases that have been selected randomly. Volunteers must commit to reviewing two cases, once a month. Reviewers sit on a quasi-judicial review panel who serve as advisors to the juvenile judge through reviewing cases and making recommendations in the best interest of the child(ren). Volunteers must also commit to serving on the boards for 2 years.
Qualifications:
Volunteers must have a strong desire to help children, posses good communication and listening skills, be objective and unbiased toward the judicial system and families involved, have some knowledge of the court system, be 21 years of age, pass a KBI and DCF background check, personal interview process and complete 12 hours of training which includes court observation.
Date/Time:
4 boards meet once a month on a Monday evening at 5:30p, Tuesday at noon, on a Tuesday evening at 5:30p, or on a Wednesday at noon.

The mission of The Volunteer Center is to match individuals willing to serve with non-profit and governmental organizations in need of help for the benefit the community. Our goal is to be the first place people think of when they want to be of service and the first place non-profit and governmental groups think of when they need dependable volunteer help. As a result we extend the human capacity of area non-profit and governmental agencies by recruiting volunteers to fill a wide variety of volunteer positions in the community.
Description
The Volunteer Center recruits, refers and supports volunteers for the betterment of the community. The Center is home of the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), the Volunteer Action Corps (VAC), Friends in Action and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program in Reno County, Kansas.
