General Maintenance Helper Needed!

ORGANIZATION: Houston SPCA

Volunteers are needed for various maintenance tasks around the Houston SPCA campus. This role requires familiarity with general tool usage and equipment. Tasks may involve repetitive motion, lifting, squatting, or kneeling.

Available Duties
  1. Blowing Leaves Off Campus

    • Description: Use either a backpack blower or a smaller electric blower to clear leaves from designated areas on campus.
    • Equipment: Backpack blower, electric blower.
    • Provided By: Maintenance team.
  2. Room Set-Up

    • Description: Arrange rooms for events according to the provided layout, which includes setting up tables and chairs.
    • Tasks: Lifting and moving heavy items.
    • Provided By: Maintenance team.
  3. Weed Pulling

    • Description: Remove weeds from the flower beds around campus.
    • Equipment: Gloves and bags.
    • Provided By: Maintenance team.
  4. Trash Pick-Up

    • Description: Refill trash cans with liners, pick up loose trash, and take full trash bags to the dumpster.
    • Equipment: Trash can liners.
    • Provided By: Maintenance team.
Requirements
  • Familiarity with general tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving repetitive motion, lifting, squatting, or kneeling.
Additional Information
  • Volunteers will receive guidance and support from the maintenance team for all tasks.
  • Proper safety equipment and instructions will be provided.

How to get started volunteering at the Houston SPCA: Submit Payment: $40 for ages 18 and up; $25 for ages 16-17
Complete Application: Once you’ve paid, you’ll receive an automated email containing a link where you can complete the application. Be sure to check your junk/spam folder!
Complete the Background Screening (18+ only): Once your application is received, you’ll receive instructions to initiate a background screening. Please follow all prompts to complete and submit this screening.
Attend Orientation: After your application and background screening (if applicable) have been reviewed, you’ll be contacted via email to register for our new volunteer orientation. Orientation is generally held twice a month on specific Saturdays. You’ll learn about the shelter and what you can expect as a volunteer.
Attend Training: Once you’ve completed orientation, you’ll be given instructions on how to register for training in one of the animal areas in which you want to volunteer.
Start Volunteering: After training in your area of choice, you can begin to schedule volunteer shifts using our online portal.
