About Readability
Location:
11200 Willowbrook Drive, Potomac, MD 20854, US
Mission Statement
At Readability, our mission is to inspire children of all abilities with a lifelong love for books and stories. We strive to create multi-sensory books and host storytelling sessions specially tailored for neurodivergent and intellectually disabled children.
Description
What We Do
At Readability, we design and create multi-sensory storybooks tailored to the unique needs of intellectually disabled children. These books consist of a simple script accompanied by props that appeal to multiple senses in order to foster a complete sensory experience for the reader(s) in an individual or group setting. We also organize multi-sensory storytelling sessions at local bookstores, libraries, schools, and other locations in order to share the gift of literature with children of all abilities.
What We've Done
In the past six months, Readability has:
- provided support for hundreds of neurodivergent children
- collected & donated 800 books worth $8,000+ dollars
- raised over $1,000
- worked with MCPS Office of Special Education, Imagination Stage, Montgomery Parks, and others
- established 4 chapters across DC, Maryland, & Virginia
We are aiming to establish a nationwide volunteer network of people who are interested in supporting intellectually disabled children. Please contact us if you would like to become a Readability State Ambassador and/or set up a Readability chapter in your school, city, or state.
