Position Title: Tutor

EPATT tutors are responsible for the 1:1 tutoring of a Kinder - 12th grade student. This role requires a desire and commitment to instruct students while adhering to EPATT curriculum implementation resulting in measurable impact.

East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring (EPATT) is an established non-profit organization that has made a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of students from East Palo Alto since 1988. Using a unique mix of one-on-one academic tutoring, tennis, and enrichment activities. EPATT strives to equip students to be college and career ready.

Qualifications and Requirements: EPATT is seeking energetic, committed, motivated, organized, and creative Tutor Specialists. This role requires comprehension of math, reading and writing at the elementary, middle, or high school level. The ideal candidate is interested in education or the non-profit sector. Experience working with youth from under-resourced communities a plus.

  • College degree or in progress strongly preferred
  • Authorized to work in the USA

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain challenging concepts, provide instructions and deliver feedback

  • Must pass a background check. (fingerprinting must be completed in California)

Location: This is primarily a remote position, but in-person options are available for candidates close to the East Palo Alto community.

Dates: Ongoing!

Hours & Schedule: Tutor takes place Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 2:35-3:15pm. Tutors must commit to at least 2 days per week.
  • Topics: Reading (mostly) and Math.

Compensation: The EPATT Tutor is an academic year position and does not include benefits. This position is contracted quarterly (fall, winter, spring, summer). There is also the option to be a volunteer (unpaid) tutor.

  • Tutors are paid $22/session that they attend. Tutors have the potential for $200 if professional development requirements and attendance requirements are met 90% of the time.
  • Minimum expected hours: 3-4 hours per week (tutoring time + professional development/training)
  • May use hours towards Federal Work Study
  • This is a part-time position
