Job Description: Policy Advisor for People's Political Choice (PPC) Party Position Overview

The Policy Advisor for People's Political Choice (PPC) is a key role responsible for developing, analyzing, and advocating for policy initiatives that align with the party's mission and values. This position involves conducting thorough research, providing expert advice, and supporting the formulation of evidence-based policies that address the needs and aspirations of Trinidad and Tobago's citizens.

Key Responsibilities

Policy Development:

  • Research: Conduct in-depth research on relevant political, economic, and social issues to inform policy development.
  • Analysis: Analyze existing policies, proposed legislation, and other political developments to assess their impact and alignment with PPC’s goals.
  • Policy Formulation: Develop and draft policy proposals, briefs, and position papers that reflect the party’s values and objectives.

Strategic Advice:

  • Expert Guidance: Provide expert advice and recommendations to party leaders and stakeholders on policy matters.
  • Strategy Development: Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement policy strategies that advance PPC’s mission and goals.
  • Issue Identification: Identify emerging issues and trends that may affect the party’s policies and develop proactive strategies to address them.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including community groups, NGOs, and government agencies, to gather insights and build support for PPC’s policies.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for PPC’s policy positions through public speaking, writing, and engagement with the media and public forums.
  • Consultation: Facilitate consultations with key stakeholders to gather input and build consensus on policy initiatives.

Legislative Support:

  • Legislative Analysis: Monitor and analyze legislative developments and provide advice on their implications for PPC.
  • Support to Legislators: Assist party legislators with the preparation of speeches, questions, and interventions related to policy matters.
  • Drafting Legislation: Collaborate with legal experts to draft legislation and amendments that reflect PPC’s policy positions.

Communication:

  • Content Creation: Prepare high-quality written content, including policy briefs, reports, and articles, to communicate PPC’s policy positions.
  • Public Relations: Work with the Communications Director to develop messaging and communication strategies for policy initiatives.
  • Media Engagement: Provide information and support for media engagements related to policy issues.

Program Evaluation:

  • Impact Assessment: Evaluate the effectiveness of implemented policies and programs, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports on policy outcomes and progress for senior leadership and stakeholders.
Skills and Qualifications

Research and Analytical Skills:

  • Strong research skills with the ability to conduct comprehensive analysis on complex issues.
  • Proficient in data analysis and the use of evidence to inform policy decisions.

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Experience in writing policy briefs, reports, and other strategic documents.

Political Acumen:

  • Understanding of the political landscape and legislative processes in Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Ability to navigate and influence political and bureaucratic environments.

Strategic Thinking:

  • Proficient in identifying emerging issues and developing proactive policy responses.

Interpersonal Skills:

Organizational Skills:

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in policy analysis, development, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in political advisory roles or government positions is highly desirable.

Educational Background:

  • Advanced degree in political science, public policy, economics, law, or a related field is preferred.
