Did you love to play fun games like tag, jump rope and hula hoop when you were growing up? Well PLAYCali gives you the opportunity to revisit those times as an adult and to help young people of this new generation learn the value of a little play. As a PLAY coach you will be responsible for safely leading elementary and/or middle school students in Positive Lively Activities for Youth (PLAY).

Mission Statement

Our mission is to bring Physical Lively Activities to young people. Physical Lively Activities for Youth offers, California (PLAY Cali) offers students the opportunity to participate in supervised, structured play. These activities take place during lunch or recess and run 30 to 45 minutes. We are a non-profit organization whose play coaches work with schools to provide students a fun and energizing experience.

Description

My sister and I want to bring play back to young people's lives. We both grew up in the Bronx and we remember how much joy we experience just playing outside. We jumped rope, played hopscotch, skelsi, tag...anything that involved our friends, being outdoors and being active. Our hope with PlayCali is to give students the opportunity to have this same experience. Our goal is to instill a love of play in this new generation of young people.

We piloted the program over the summer session in the El Diablo School District. We were all delighted with the results. Students who at day one were hesitant to play were using the hula hoop by week two. Kids were engaged, and asking if we would return. We are excited to have the opportunity to bring PlayCali to 9 middle schools in Northern California. As we know very well, public schools are vastly underfunded. They have money for operating costs, staffing and nothing else. Our goal is to hopefully get a grant that can subsidize some of the cost of the PlayCali program for these schools. Until we can get the grants in place we would like to continue to offer these activities to schools. Please join us!
