DME - Wheelchairs
Wheelchairs at our DME loan pool.

We're looking for 2 new volunteers to help at our durable medical equipment (DME) loan pool housed at Reliable Medical in Brooklyn Park. The ideal person will be mechanically minded, highly organized, and available on Tuesdays or Thursdays, either weekly or every other week for a four-hour shift sometime between 9:00 am- 4:00 pm (earlier in the day is most helpful). Our DME loan pool is our state's most utilized program. This equipment, loaned out free of charge, allows people to maintain independence and stay safe as their ALS progresses. These volunteers will help our staff process the large number of requests we receive each week so that items are sent out as efficiently as possible. Responsibilities and Duties

  • Retrieve medical equipment that has been requested by someone living with ALS.
  • Charge electrical medical equipment, such as lifts and power wheelchairs, when necessary.
  • Return medical equipment to its proper location, rearranging items as necessary.
  • Keep track of items returned, retrieved, and trashed.
  • Make small mechanical repairs, as able.
  • Knowledge of durable medical equipment preferred
  • Skilled in small mechanical repairs (ex: repairing cable brakes or assessing issues with rolling casters)
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
  • Able to bend and lift up to 50 pounds/awkward shapes
  • Willing to learn and use safe lifting techniques
  • Capable of walking up and down a flight of stairs/ladder multiple times during a shift
  • Comfort working in a warehouse setting with temperature fluctuations and limited air conditioning
