Interns are cherished at HCW as valuable members of our team. Interns are given the same same standing in meetings as any other staff, and included in weekly staff meetings to share input and gather information. Longer term internships are often provided opportunities to travel as a member of the international headquarters staff to conferences, presentations and meetings and to network with others in the field of global development, child welfare, emergency relief, global health, and ethical mission deployment.

We can work with your location and your schedule, as most internships, including this one, can be managed in a remote, modern technology enhanced environment.

For graduate and under-graduate students, we can work with educational institutions to support your credit requirements, if that is a matter of interest.

  1. Coordinates the work that supports business development activity with respect to one or more opportunities, events, grants, donor prospect, pitch or presentation.

    1. Gathers work teams and team member contact information, and transmits contact information to the team lead

    2. Establishes and maintains dashboards on the HCW google drive for tracking budget, activities and progress on events and presentation opportunities, grant submissions, using the HCW standard dashboard formats

    3. Supports team lead by calendaring and convening meetings as required by team leads between committee volunteers and staff engaged in fundraising campaigns, events, and presentations for the purpose of fundraising and business development

    4. Establishes the google drive folders for document management for campaigns, events, and presentations.

    5. Assists teams in planning presentations, programs and activities consistent with securing philanthropic support for Helping Children Worldwide

    6. Assist development teams in devising creative collaborations that advance the mission.

  2. Maintains work team notes and files.

  3. Reports on team activity at staff meetings in the absence of team lead. .
  4. Works with marketing, social media, and publications staff to generate visually appealing and compelling imagery, graphs and charts that accurately depict and express data regarding mission purpose and outcomes.
  5. Works with grants team to create concise "plug and play" content for grant applications.
  6. Researches grants, corporate giving and philanthropic interests that align with mission and purpose and provides clear information on application processes.
  7. Drafts compelling pitches, materials and messaging regarding potential donations and support opportunities, and submits to development team leads for potential use in business development meetings

It is anticipated that 100% of time will be spent in development work, assisting team members in marketing campaigns, pitch presentations, messaging and proposals.

Interns are provided an opportunity to learn, grow and become leaders and managers. Successful interns are treated as equal members of the team, and provided opportunity to share ideas and exert creative influence over decisions made by leadership. Highly successful interns generally become team leads for one or more specific projects or mission support activities that are of particular interest, or where their demonstrated skill sets can be leveraged effectively.

50% in development administration using the CRM database in fundraising and other types of development campaigns and facilitating financial and marketing components of event management,

50% in campaign, pitch and presentation design coordination, launch and management of email and direct mail campaigns and coordinating, supervising or teaming with others in management of email campaigns, social media campaigns, publications and website design.

Responsibilities, expectations

  • Provide excellent administrative support to the Chief Executive Officer, scheduling/maintaining her calendar, anticipating needs in advance of meetings, preparing and organizing materials for CEOs presentations and meetings, providing researching and pulling additional donor or prospect information from various systems and generate agendas, generating powerpoint slides, synopsis of information or coversheets to aid in specific meeting management or presentation. Take notes or minutes of meetings when present to aid CEO. Aid in development of call scripts for initial contacts and donor cultivation, organize call sheets and scripts for CEO calls, and prepare call sheets and scripts for distribution to board or volunteers.

  • Compile, analyze, and organize information (from the database or other sources) to serve as background for meetings, reports, and solicitations. Collect and compile information from diverse sources, perform calculations, create charts, graphs and spreadsheets and perform other related duties as requested.

  • Develop and maintain donor/prospect tracking and event spreadsheets. Assist in developing materials for use in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospects.

  • Assist with special projects and preparation of deliverables for both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Be well informed on policies and procedures and provide assistance in resolving administrative problems and issues in the absence of the CEO. General administrative support and shared tasks while in the office environment including answering phones, greeting and directing guests, and providing other general office help as necessary.

  • Schedule phone calls, interviews, meetings, and other internal/external interaction for the CEO, organize materials needed for calls.

  • Regularly interface with all headquarters staff, communicates with partners, leadership and general public through telephone, correspondence, and email.

  • Manage routine mail and office operations, maintain inventory and reorder office supplies when needed. Opens correspondence, manage distribution of mail, maintain confidentiality and security of personal and financial information, maintain CEOs administrative, correspondence and financial files.

  • Develop and track Key Performance Indicators (KPI), compile reports on performance indicators, including details on customer contacts, status of donations, campaign results, event participation, ticket purchases.

  • Provide Executive Director with research, status reports, updates and critical analysis and makes recommendations on planning, process, and management of development activity and supports the preparation of presentations regarding HCW objectives to information users regarding plans, budgets, challenges, opportunities, status, objectives and accomplishments.

  • Interface regularly with the HCW Executive Director and other HCW staff and anticipates needs of Executive Director and other HCW staff in providing detailed information and critical updates regarding administrative, communication and financial. Support work of compliance officer for nonprofit registrations and grants, and program staff in compiling statistics. Support HCW activities as a member of the headquarters staff.

  • Continue to expand industry knowledge to keep abreast of best practices and market trends.
