ORGANIZATION: Red Deer Native Friendship Society

As an indigenous organization, we offer a variety of programs, one of them is Celebrating Families! which is an educational program for families who are having trouble because of substance use; also, for all of our other programs we offer childminding in our children's room called Little Paws. We are looking for a volunteer that can help with the following tasks:

  • Organizing the books for kids: we have indigenous and non-indigenous books for children, that they need to be categorized in age group/ thematic/ objective/use recommendations. The volunteer could propose a categorization and create a system, this would be helpful to everyone who works or wants to work with children to find appropriate resources.
  • Once the categorization is done, match this list with the Celebrating Families! one (we have a list of suggested books). The volunteer could recommend Indigenous books to add and other resources.
  • Suggests new books and resources that might be missing.
  • Review and improve the curriculum for Little Paws, for the children that are part of childminding.
  • Other tasks as needed.

This volunteer position will be in-office, the schedule is flexible and can be coordinated with the volunteer. This volunteer position is expected to be fill as soon as possible.

Qualifications, Experience, and skills:

  • Teaching skills
  • Education or early learning student
  • Respect and support local Indigenous cultural values, beliefs, and traditions
