JASSC needs a new treasurer!

The treasurer is the principal financial officer of JASSC, and is responsible for all funds, financial matters, forms and filings, and record-keeping related to such activities. As an officer of the board, you will interact with our board and membership regularly, and enjoy countless networking opportunities which might open new doors in your career. This volunteer position is perfect for...

  • A young professional just starting out and looking to build financial experience and connections to Japan, or...
  • An experienced professional looking to give back to the community.

Duties include...

  1. Attend regular monthly board meetings both in person in Colorado Springs and/or virtually
  2. Be willing and able to attend regular seasonal events hosted by JASSC
  3. Manage cash-box and direct other volunteers during events
  4. Manage cash flow and reconcile bank statements
  5. Manage access to funds and pay out reimbursements
  6. Keep a calendar of filing requirements and deadlines
  7. Prepare annual budget and make recommendations to board
  8. Prepare and explain monthly reports
  9. Check previous financial records and make projections

You must...

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a passion for Japanese culture and bridging international relations
  • Have strong financial literacy
  • Be willing to learn new skills and concepts
  • Be timely and responsive, with clear and accurate record keeping skills
  • Be comfortable using Google Suite and Workspace (gmail, meet, drive, sheets, docs, spaces, etc.)

It would be awesome if you also had...

  • Knowledge or experience in accounting, bookkeeping, grant writing, or fundraising
  • Previous experience on a non-profit board
  • Membership with JASSC or another Japan-related organization
  • Bachelor’s degree or work experience in accounting or finance

The Japan-America Society of Southern Colorado is a non-profit 501c(3) educational and cultural organization promoting increased awareness, education, and understanding between the citizens of Southern Colorado and Japan.

Description

We are a grassroots, nonprofit organization with a volunteer board. We have been bringing awareness of Japanese culture to Southern Colorado since 1998, and if you have attended events like Mochitsuki Festival(rice pounding in January), Children's Day Festival (typically held at CC), or the Japanese Cultural Bazaar(held at UCCS), you have supported our mission! We dream of bringing more opportunities to connect and engage with Japanese culture to people all over Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and everywhere in-between. Our vision is enrich Southern Colorado with endless opportunities to engage with Japanese culture.

JASSC is always looking for volunteers to help with events and program development, and we especially need people with the following talents at this time:
- Treasury and accounting experience (we're looking for a new treasurer!)
- event planning experience
- legal experience
- Japanese-American or Japanese cultural knowledge
- knowledge of Japanese language
- a general passion for spreading the love of Japanese culture!
