Position Title: Peer-to-Peer Texting Volunteer

Organization: Austin NOW

Location: Remote (Volunteers can participate from home)

Commitment: Flexible hours, with a minimum of 5 hours per week. Evening and weekend shifts are available.

Position Overview

Austin NOW is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to join our peer-to-peer texting team. As a Peer-to-Peer Texting Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in reaching out to our community, mobilizing voters, and spreading awareness about our key initiatives, including voter registration and advocacy against violence towards women.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Engage with Community Members via Text

    • Use provided scripts to send personalized text messages to individuals in our community.
    • Answer questions, provide information, and engage in meaningful conversations through text.
  2. Promote Events and Initiatives

    • Inform recipients about upcoming events, such as the Ending Violence Against Women event and voter mobilization efforts.
    • Encourage participation and provide necessary details for event registration.
  3. Gather Feedback and Data

    • Record responses and feedback from text recipients accurately in the system.
    • Report any significant findings or trends to the campaign coordinator.
  4. Maintain Professionalism and Confidentiality

    • Ensure all interactions are respectful, informative, and aligned with Austin NOW’s mission.
    • Protect the privacy and confidentiality of the individuals you contact.
  5. Participate in Training and Meetings

    • Attend initial training sessions to become familiar with the texting platform and best practices.
    • Join regular check-ins or meetings to discuss progress, share experiences, and receive updates.
Qualifications
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written communication skills and ability to engage in meaningful conversations via text.
  • Comfort with Technology: Basic understanding of texting platforms and willingness to learn new systems.
  • Attention to Detail: Accurate data entry and record-keeping skills.
  • Dependability: Reliable and committed to fulfilling scheduled shifts and responsibilities.
  • Passion for Social Justice: Enthusiasm for Austin NOW’s mission and goals.
Training and Support
  • Comprehensive Training: All volunteers will receive training on using the peer-to-peer texting platform, understanding the scripts, and handling responses.
  • Ongoing Support: Volunteers will have access to a support team for assistance during their shifts and regular check-ins to address any questions or concerns.

As the grassroots arm of the women’s movement, the National Organization for Women is dedicated to its multi-issue and multi-strategy approach to women’s rights, and is the largest organization of feminist grassroots activists in the United States. NOW has hundreds of chapters and hundreds of thousands of members and activists in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Since our founding in 1966, NOW’s purpose is to take action through intersectional grassroots activism to promote feminist ideals, lead societal change, eliminate discrimination, and achieve and protect the equal rights of all women and girls in all aspects of social, political, and economic life.
