Position Title: Phone Banking Volunteer

Organization: Austin NOW

Location: Remote (Volunteers can participate from home)

Commitment: Flexible hours, with a minimum of 5 hours per week. Evening and weekend shifts are available.

Position Overview

Austin NOW is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to join our phone banking team. As a Phone Banking Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in our efforts to mobilize voters and advocate for our key initiatives, including voter registration, voter education, and awareness campaigns on critical issues such as ending violence against women.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Make Phone Calls to Voters

    • Use a provided script to contact voters and provide information on voting processes, important dates, and Austin NOW’s key initiatives.
    • Engage in meaningful conversations to encourage voter registration and participation.
  2. Data Collection and Reporting

    • Accurately record the outcomes of each call, including voter feedback and questions.
    • Update the team on any significant findings or trends observed during phone calls.
  3. Provide Information and Support

    • Answer basic questions about voting and Austin NOW’s initiatives.
    • Direct voters to appropriate resources for additional information or assistance.
  4. Maintain Confidentiality

    • Ensure the privacy and confidentiality of voter information.
    • Follow all guidelines and protocols to protect personal data.
  5. Training and Meetings

    • Attend training sessions to become familiar with phone banking scripts, software, and best practices.
    • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss progress, share experiences, and receive updates.
Qualifications
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to engage in clear and persuasive conversations with diverse individuals.
  • Comfort with Technology: Basic computer skills and familiarity with using phone banking software or willingness to learn.
  • Attention to Detail: Accurate data entry and record-keeping skills.
  • Dependability: Reliable and committed to fulfilling scheduled shifts and responsibilities.
  • Passion for Social Justice: Enthusiasm for Austin NOW’s mission and goals.
Training and Support
  • Comprehensive Training: All volunteers will receive training on phone banking techniques, the use of scripts, data entry, and the specific goals of Austin NOW’s campaigns.
  • Ongoing Support: Volunteers will have access to a support team for assistance during their shifts, as well as regular check-ins to address any questions or concerns.

As the grassroots arm of the women’s movement, the National Organization for Women is dedicated to its multi-issue and multi-strategy approach to women’s rights, and is the largest organization of feminist grassroots activists in the United States. NOW has hundreds of chapters and hundreds of thousands of members and activists in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Since our founding in 1966, NOW’s purpose is to take action through intersectional grassroots activism to promote feminist ideals, lead societal change, eliminate discrimination, and achieve and protect the equal rights of all women and girls in all aspects of social, political, and economic life.
