Power For Parkinson's provides free fitness classes to people with Parkinson's Disease and their care partners. We host ten in-person classes a week in Central Texas and are also the most watched Parkinson's exercise channel on YouTube. Our instructors lead participants through symptom focused workouts that involve seated and standing elements. The classes have a life-changing impact since regular exercise can slow or even reverse the effects of PD. Our programs also provide a strong social community, which helps prevent the depression and isolation that are prevalent with PD.

Volunteers are an important part of the PFP community and often develop meaningful connections with our participants and instructors. Duties for volunteers include helping participants get their name tags, taking attendance, bringing them their workout supplies (weights, balls, etc), and spotting them during portions of the class when they are standing. Volunteering with PFP is a rewarding experience where you're surrounded by warmhearted people and making a difference in people's lives.

We are recruiting volunteers for our Georgetown class which takes place at Georgetown Church of Christ every Wednesday from 1-2pm.

Mission Statement

Power for Parkinson’s (PFP) is a rapidly expanding non-profit organization that provides a wide variety of completely free mind & body fitness classes for people with Parkinson’s and their care partners. Our mission is to improve the well-being of people with Parkinson's disease through group fitness and social interaction, both of which have been proven highly beneficial for people with Parkinson’s. We achieve this mission through local in-person classes and events in the greater Austin area and through our YouTube channel, which is the #1 Parkinson’s Fitness channel on YouTube. We are excited to expand our volunteer team locally in Austin, TX.

Description

Power for Parkinson’s was founded in 2013 on the idea that the Parkinson's community needed a welcoming, inclusive space to meet and engage in group exercise. Since then, the organization has provided free weekly exercise, dance, and singing classes to hundreds of people living with Parkinson's in the Austin community. Power for Parkinson’s participants look forward to their weekly classes and social events, have an improved sense of well being, and report they are doing better physically, emotionally, and socially. In addition to weekly classes in the Austin, TX area, Power for Parkinson's has build a global community providing free at-home exercise videos via YouTube. The videos have since been viewed in over 160 countries around the world.
