ORGANIZATION: Trellis

Are you interested in educating older adults, caregivers, and the community at large? Volunteer Outreach Presenters provide unbiased, free educational presentations across the seven-county Metro area. As we get ready for Medicare Open Enrollment (Oct 15 - Dec 7), we are looking for more volunteers to help with two of our presentations: Medicare 101 and Annual Medicare Update.

Our presentations are offered in-person as well as virtually (via Microsoft Teams or Zoom). Medicare 101 teaches the basics of Medicare, and it is presented year round. Annual Medicare Update shares the most recent changes in Medicare benefits and coverage, and it is offered only during Medicare Open Enrollment Period.

Volunteer Outreach Presenters are trained to help others:

  • Understand the basics of Medicare and additional insurance options
  • Answer questions about Medicare enrollment
  • Explore low- to modest-income programs that can lower out-of-pocket Medicare costs
  • Identify, report, and prevent Medicare fraud and abuse
  • Learn about Trellis and Senior LinkAge Line services

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Sensitivity to the needs of older adults, persons with disabilities, and other diverse populations.
  • Desire to assist older adults and caregivers in understanding their Medicare options.
  • Reliable transportation and internet connection.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions as required.
  • Effective communication skills and comfort with public speaking.
  • Compliance with agency’s non-conflict of interest, confidentiality, and other policies.
  • We strongly encourage people of color, indigenous, immigrants and refugees, LGBTQ+, people with disabilities, and bilingual people to apply.
  • Be 18+

Volunteer Training:

  • Completion of State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) Training (online)
  • Onboard and train with Outreach Team staff and other presentation volunteers
  • Shadow one or more presentations led by experienced staff or volunteers
  • Co-lead one or more presentations with experienced volunteer to demonstrate appropriate knowledge and presentation skills
  • Receive ongoing trainings, supervision, and shadow support visits

Volunteer Benefits:

  • Mileage reimbursement for when you have to come to the office in Arden Hills, MN, or when you need to travel to our community partners.
  • Be a vital team member and directly impact the lives of older adults and caregivers.
  • Share your knowledge with individuals who truly appreciate it.
  • Learn about Medicare, Trellis, and the Senior LinkAge Line.
  • Develop a spectrum of marketable skills while receiving ongoing support and education.
  • Expand your social network and increase your professional development opportunities.

Time Investment:

Presentations are scheduled Monday - Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends. We ask volunteers for a minimum of 4 hours per month and a minimum commitment of one year to the program.
