Join Million Little in transforming lives and healing trauma through the power of creativity! This mission takes a collaborative effort, and we could not do it without our dedicated Volunteers. Event Volunteers join Million Little Facilitators in bringing art-making into the community.

The Event

Day of Creativity is a Saturday morning event that invites artists of all ages to connect and create together! Volunteers and staff support children and their families to explore their imagination and paint 4"x4" canvases. Participants may take their canvases home or donate them to our Million Little Canvas project, in which local artists will create a community art piece using the "million" canvases painted over the years. (We use "million" loosely here!)

The Role

The Lead Volunteer for Day of Creativity (DOC Lead) will be a compassionate and reliable leader who can commit at least one Saturday each month to overseeing this recurring event in Pacoima.

Required responsibilities of the DOC Lead include:

  • Packing up and transporting supplies to and from our office in Santa Clarita and the event site in Pacoima one weekend each month
  • Leading team of volunteers to set up and take down art supplies, info table, prize table, and small lawn games
  • Log number of participants and number of canvases used at each event
  • Encouraging young artists to express themselves through play and creation!
  • Represent Million Little with professionalism, warmth, and a trauma-informed approach to working with youth and community partners. Training provided

Possible additional responsibilities may include:

  • Taking photos and videos of the event (only using Million Little devices and following Million Little's protocol)
  • Refilling/mixing paint to prepare for future events (some volunteers have enjoyed this work, but it is not necessarily the responsibility of the DOC Lead)

Other details to note

  • Ideally, this role will be shared by two people! Couples, friends, family members are encouraged to apply
  • Applicants proficient in Spanish are highly encouraged to apply
  • DOC takes place in Pacoima on Saturday mornings, but supplies are to be picked up and dropped of in Santa Clarita before and after the event. Pickup could be anytime Thursday-Saturday morning and dropoff could be either Saturday afternoon or Monday.
  • Supplies fit nicely in a spacious compact/crossover, or small SUV. For example, a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid is one of our current vehicles, which has 26.5 cubic feet of cargo.
  • DOC Leads must pass a Live Scan background check
