In this program, you provide individualized time and attention to a child between the ages of 6-16 for 4 hours per month for 12 months; there are also check-ins with your Little occur once a week. During unstructured outings, filled with conversations and shared activities, matches develop relationships that help youth manage everyday challenges and stresses that are a part of growing up. During the time with their Bigs, children gain new skills and explore new interests that expand their experience base beyond their family and neighborhood.
While you are not expected to pay for your Little’s portion of the outings, you should keep in mind that most of our families are facing adversity and may not be able to pay for the activities. We encourage Bigs to arrange for free and very low cost activities.

Mission Statement
The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
Description
BBBSCFL has one core mission: provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Independent studies have clearly shown that mentoring is an effective preventative service that improves childrenâ s lives by increasing self-confidence, decision-making skills, school attendance, and academic success. Mentoring is also proven to decrease levels of truancy, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, and school drop-out rates. By partnering with local corporations, businesses, and schools, BBBSCFL is able to recruit, screen, and train adult volunteers to serve as mentors to children throughout Central Florida. BBBSCFL runs two distinct mentoring programs: 1) site-based mentoring, 2) community-based mentoring.
