ORGANIZATION: Philly Reading Coaches

Philly Reading Coaches (PRC) is a reading program funded by the Office of Children and Families and implemented by Out-of-School Time Providers based on proven models that combine early reading support, access to books, and community volunteers to boost reading skills for our city’s children. The program works by pairing trained volunteers with young students - kindergarten through 3rd grade, and by providing fun and child-guided reading experiences that help build reading skills and motivation. Each child in the program also receives 25 free books to take home.

The Site Intern (SI) serves as support for the PRC program. In this role, SIs will oversee a team of committed volunteers focused on improving the literacy levels and love of reading for students in grades K-3. The SIs will manage the volunteers and student-volunteer sessions at assigned sites, ensuring the program is implemented with fidelity. SIs will report to the OST Site Director and PRC Coordinator.

This internship is perfect for individuals looking for a professional learning experience or an opportunity to share acquired skills in early childhood education and social work. Site Interns will work roughly 7.5 hours per week. This includes at least 6 hours of program oversight, up to 1 hour of data entry, and 30 minutes in weekly supervision or monthly Communities of Practice meetings. Preparation for PRC programs will begin in September 2024; the program will run from October 2024 to May 2025.
