Founded in 1928, the course is nestled on 135 acres east of Western Avenue. Players & members of all races were welcome, making it a rare haven for inclusivity. In 1982 community leaders & the course itself decided to honor Chester L. Washington, publisher of The Wave, the nation's largest African American-owned newspaper chain.
