Are you passionate about reading and interested in sharing that passion with new readers? Would you like to help local children achieve academic success this school year by starting a Reading Club for Children program? The Reading Club Leader will facilitate weekly or monthly book discussions for school children, focusing on enhancing reading comprehension. Volunteers may lead independently or collaborate with others to organize groups based on reading level and interests. They will help children choose suitable books to read together and decide on the reading format that best suits the group's interests, whether it's individual reading or taking turns reading aloud. Additionally, they may incorporate extra activities to improve the reading comprehension skills of the children, such as writing simple book reports or drawing characters based on written descriptions from the book. An ideal candidate should:

  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be punctual and reliable
  • Work well with and be patient with children
  • Have a passion for reading
  • Possess a positive attitude and a growth mindset
  • Be able to facilitate in-person or virtual book club discussions
This volunteer opportunity is open to individuals who are 18 years or older are required to undergo fingerprinting, which will be provided by the library. All applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum of 6 months, with a preference for a 9-month commitment corresponding to the school year.
