Meals on Wheels Denton County is in dire need of volunteers to deliver Meals On Wheels around the Denton County area to the elderly and disabled. Volunteers meet distribution centers around the County between 10-11 am each weekday to pickup and then deliver meals to clients in need. Volunteers can volunteer for one or more days each week.
Serve the community of Denton County by becoming a Meals On Wheels volunteer. As a Meals on Wheels volunteer, you have the opportunity to brighten someone's day while delivering to them the essential daily need of a nutritious meal. Mission Statement
Mission : SPAN/Meals On Wheels enables people to live as fully and independently as possible by providing nutrition, transportation and other services to seniors, people with disabilities, veterans and the general public in Denton County.
Description
SPAN, Special Program for Aging Needs, is a private, non-profit organization established in 1974 to provide services to senior citizens in Denton County. Services include:
- Meals on Wheels: Home Delivered Meals: Trained volunteer staff deliver nutritious daily meals to homebound seniors. Meals are delivered throughout Denton County from pick up sites located in Denton, Lewisville, Carrollton, Little Elm, The Colony, Pilot Point, Sanger, and Krum. These daily visits by volunteers also provide social interaction for the recipients.
- Meals at Senior Centers: For those 60+ years of age, this service provides daily meals and the opportunity to enjoy other seniors at seven Senior Centers in Denton County.
Senior Paws: The goal of Senior Paws is to support the needs of Meals on Wheels clients by providing monthly pet food supplements. Senior Paws will help to ensure that seniors are not sharing their daily meals with their beloved companions when they are unable to afford or transport enough pet food.
Rural public transportation by appointment to doctor visits, shopping, etc. All vehicles are wheelchair accessible.
