HI USA is looking for volunteers to assist in evaluating applications for our travel scholarship programs thoughout the year. We offer 3 different scholarship programs and volunteers can assist in grading for all or just one, whatever fits your schedule best.
Scholarships offered and the evaluation time period:
Explore the World
At HI USA, we believe that travel changes you so you can change the world. That's why we created the Explore the World Travel Scholarship: we want to help young Americans, regardless of financial need, travel experience, or location, to connect with other countries and cultures. https://www.hiusa.org/travel-scholarships/explore-the-world-scholarship
Grading occurs in: October/November
Explore America
HI USA's Explore America program helps young Americans with demonstrated financial need kickstart their travel dreams. https://www.hiusa.org/travel-scholarships/explore-america-scholarship
Grading occurs in February
IOU Respect
Eye-opening. Thought-provoking. Remarkable. Life-changing. IOU Respect is not just a trip -- it's a journey. It’s a diverse group of individuals from six partner countries -- the U.S., Egypt, France, Germany, Lebanon, and Tunisia -- coming together to discover their unique cultural differences and appreciate their undeniable similarities. IOU Respect breaks down barriers and helps participants build lasting relationships on a foundation of appreciation, respect, and understanding. https://www.hiusa.org/iou-respect
Grading occurs in March
Instructions:
Volunteers are asked to complete a HI USA application and attend one training on how to grade applications and how to use our grading system. Volunteers are given anywhere from 3-4 weeks to complete their grading which can be done at their own pace and on their own time. You can literally volunteer in your PJs! Grading for each scholarship takes about 5 hours total over the 3-4 week period, but this is also dependent on the pace of reading for each person.
