Recruiting Organization: TerraCorps

Whether you are passionate about conservation, land access, or sustainable agriculture, TerraCorps is here to help you serve local communities and build professional skills through transformative experiences.

TerraCorps is an AmeriCorps affiliated environmental nonprofit preparing and mobilizing emerging leaders to help communities gain access to and conserve land for people and nature. We do this by partnering with a network of 40+ nonprofits in Massachusetts and Rhode Island focused on community needs related to local land conservation and sustainable agriculture. These partners act as service sites for a new cohort of up to 60 AmeriCorps service members annually. Service members are paired with a site supervisor who provides guidance and mentorship while they build capacity for the organization and learn to manage community programs in one of 5 coordinator positions: Community Engagement Coordinators (CEC), Sustainable Agriculture Coordinators (SAC), Land Stewardship Coordinators (LSC), Youth Education Coordinators (YEC), Land Conservation Coordinator (LCC).

Land Conservation Coordinators build the long-term capacity of their service sites by:

  • Members may provide outreach and education to landowners about voluntary land conservation options.
  • Members may organize landscape-scale land protection projects.
  • Members may organize, support, and represent service sites in regional conservation partnerships.
  • Members may engage land committee volunteers in community conservation needs assessment and strategic conservation planning.
  • Members may conduct outreach to conservation commissions and open space committees.
  • Members may prepare non-federal grant applications for land protection projects.
  • Members may provide GIS technical assistance.
  • Members may conduct landowner intakes and perform preliminary land project assessments.
  • And many other land protection projects and activities
