ORGANIZATION: Silverado Hospice -South Houston

This volunteer program is a way to capture the memories of patients in their own words. Fully certified hospice volunteers receive additional specialized training in order to participate in the Memory Catcher program.

When a Memory Catcher candidate is identified, a Memory Catcher volunteer is then assigned to go to their home with the appropriate equipment and permission from the patient and/or family. The Memory Catcher volunteer records the patient using the guided questions provided during their specialized training to elicit the person’s history. The patient can be interviewed once or several times---there is no set procedure as each one’s story is different. Most often, the Memory Catcher recording can be completed in 1-2 sessions. Release forms are obtained from the responsible party prior to any recordings.

The Memory Catcher volunteer then edits the recording or turns in the recording for editing to the volunteer coordinator. The video recording is edited to remove extraneous noises, pauses, and to better streamline the video into something enjoyable for family and others.

About Silverado Hospice -South Houston

4800 Sugar Grove Blvd, Suite 390, Stafford, TX 77477, US

Mission Statement

Silverado Hospice's mission is to affirm the cycle of life by enhancing the quality of living for those at the end of life. The Silverado standard is to care compassionately for patients and their families and to empower those we serve to have quality of life options that afford them comfort and dignity.

Silverado Hospice provides care for terminally ill patients in their home, nursing home or assisted living facilities. Hospice volunteers are ordinary people of all ages with extraordinary love and a common bond concern for others. Volunteers can touch lives in many ways. As little as a few hours a week can truly make a difference in your life and someone else's. Volunteers are an integral part of the Silverado Hospice Circle of Care. Our trained volunteers spend time with patients and families to provide support and love in many ways. They keep patients company, read to them, or take them for walks. They give care relief to weary caregivers, run errands, help in the office and provide bereavement support to grieving families. Individuals with musical, artistic, sewing, and quilting skills are welcome.
