Position Summary: Rukundo International is seeking a motivated and skilled Data/Analytics Engineer Volunteer to join our team. This volunteer will play a crucial role in creating and implementing data models and databases for our programs, developing data entry systems, cleaning and analyzing data, working with stakeholders, and enhancing our existing data processes through automation and improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Modeling & Database Implementation:
    • Design and create data models for various programs and projects.
    • Implement and manage databases based on these models to ensure efficient data storage and retrieval.
  • Data Entry Systems Development:
    • Develop user-friendly data entry systems to facilitate accurate and timely data collection.
    • Ensure data entry systems are secure and comply with relevant data protection regulations as applicable.
  • Data Cleaning & Analysis:
    • Clean and preprocess data to ensure its accuracy and reliability.
    • Perform data analysis to generate insights and support decision-making processes.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
    • Work with program managers and other stakeholders to understand data needs and requirements.
    • Translate stakeholder requirements into technical specifications and actionable data solutions.
  • Process Improvement & Automation:
    • Identify opportunities to improve and automate existing data processes.
    • Develop and implement solutions to streamline data workflows and enhance efficiency.
  • Initiative & Innovation:
    • Take initiative to identify and act on opportunities for improving our data systems and processes.
    • Pitch projects and implement end-to-end solutions that align with organizational goals.


  • Proficiency in SQL for database management and querying.
  • Strong skills in Python for data analysis, scripting, and automation.
  • Experience with data modeling and database design.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, including VBA for automation.
  • Project planning and management skills are a plus.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Willingness or preference to work with open-source technologies.
  • Ability to pitch projects and implement end-to-end solutions.

Rukundo International (RI) empowers Kabale, Uganda's most vulnerable populations with educational and economic opportunities that lead to self-sustaining communities.


Founded in 2014, Rukundo International (RI) is dedicated to the overarching goal to empower women and children in Kabale, Uganda, acting as a partner and advocate, to ensure they have the basic human resources necessary to reach their full potential and to be successful. RI is also dedicated to fostering global awareness between individuals in the US and Uganda, providing opportunities to authentically learn about new cultures and develop meaningful relationships with those outside their community.

Our Impacts

  • Close to 3,000 Ugandans with access to safe water through installation of four water sources
  • 50 vulnerable boys who are "off the streets" due to our boys soccer program
  • 136 students enrolled in the Rukundo Preparatory School
  • 1,165 girls graduated from the Girls Empowerment Program
  • 57 students participating in the Scholars Program
  • 22 women participating in the Women’s Cooperative to gain extra income for their households
  • 100+ children engaged in our weekly Community Center programs

RI is currently partnered with Kyanamira - a small, rural community in Southwest Uganda - to create holistic, sustainable programs that provide opportunities for education, nutrition, hygiene, social development, & economic success. Working collaboratively with local government officials, community leaders, and the people, RI helps orphans, financially distressed families, and at-risk youth within the community.
