Lend a Hand, Lift a Box: Volunteer for Food Distribution Days with COL!

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Center of Life

We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join our Community Engagement team with our food bank distribution. Your help is crucial in ensuring that food reaches those in need, especially during these challenging times when food costs are rising, and many are struggling with limited access to fresh and affordable food. By volunteering with us, you’ll be directly supporting efforts to bridge these gaps and ensure that everyone in our community has access to the nutritious food they need.

The Details:

Lifting and Moving: Assist with loading food boxes into the van. Each box typically weighs around 5 pounds, so nothing too heavy.

Sorting and Packing: Help sort through donated food items and assemble the required number of food boxes.

Delivery Assistance: Load the packed boxes back into the van and help with delivering them to designated locations.

Day and Time: Thursdays, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Frequency: Every other Thursday for the next 6 months, with potential for extension depending on staffing.

Volunteers can either meet us at the Center of Life (COL) and drive with our team or follow in their own vehicle. Flexibility in transportation is up to your preference.

Join us in making a significant impact in our community! Your support helps provide essential food resources to those who need it most.

About Center of Life

161 Hazelwood Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15207, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide families and youth with the life-skills, education, training and resources necessary to be strong and to make their communities strong. Our vision is to empower and equip families to bring economic revitalization to their communities. We believe this is achieved through building sustainable partnerships locally, nationally, and internationally. At COL we believe "everything is about people."

Center of Life (COL) is a community-empowerment organization located in the Greater Hazelwood Neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. Our programs focus on music and arts, athletics, and education.

Founded in 2002 by Tim Smith, COL stands with the people of Hazelwood as they strive to be strong and make their communities strong. With its roots planted deeply in the community and supported by extraordinary partners, COL serves Hazelwood and its surrounding communities with the rich academic out-of-school programs and outstanding experiences in music and arts. COL employs a holistic approach to community through all of its programs, believing that commitment to others is most productive when you walk with those served in their schools, homes and families.

Center of Life hosts multiple youth programs including The KRUNK Movement, Center of Life Jazz, Fusion, and Camp Hazelwood. These programs combine music, art, dance, academics, and athletics rooted in the academic content areas and curricula of the Pennsylvania Department of Education Academic Standards.

Center of Life also hosts community and family engagement to provide families and community members with the knowledge, tools, and strategies they need to move from surviving to thriving.

At Center of Life we believe "everything is about people."
