Guadalupe Mountains has three developed campgrounds open year round which are open to tent or vehicle camping (RVs, etc.) one of which can only be used by groups with horses. All campsites in the Pine Springs and Dog Canyon Campgrounds are reservable up to six months in advance through recreation.gov.

Dog Canyon is a two-hour drive from the Pine Springs area. The Dog Canyon Campground sits at 6,300 feet in elevation and has 9 tent and 4 RV sites. There is one group site at Dog Canyon that can be reserved for a group of 10-20 individuals. Campground amenities include drinking water and flush toilets (there are NO hookups, dump stations or showers). Only cooking stoves are permitted; charcoal, wood fires, and propane firepits are not permitted.

Job Duties:

• Must have an RV and be willing to make a minimum 12 week commitment.
• Be a first-person informal contact for visitors and campers to Guadalupe Mountains National Park.
• Serve as a resource for visitors and campers; visit with campers and conduct inspections throughout the campground area.
• Remain in campground throughout the day to be available to visitors.
• Provide posted information daily- highlighting weather, events at the park, and programs available for the day.
• Answer questions about Guadalupe Mountains National Park, the campground, local amenities and services, trails, area recreational opportunities and park regulations. Contact park officials to answer unique/difficult questions.
• Assist visitors with registering campsites on Recreation.gov and entrance fees via self-pay station (note: fees are not collected by volunteers directly).
• Monitor safety at the campground and reporting hazards to appropriate park officials.
• Pick up litter around campground area.
• May be called upon to assist with emergencies such as SAR (search-and-rescue) or evacuations due to flooding or wildland fire.
• Serve as an important link between park law enforcement officials and the campground. Hosts only report incidents and situations that need to be addressed. Hosts do not take actions to enforce laws, regulations and policies, such as detaining or arresting suspects and endangering themselves or visitors.
• Help with other duties that may arise that benefit the national park or visitors.
• Must be willing to learn about operations and general information on Guadalupe Mountains National Park in order to provide accurate information to visitors.
• Work a minimum of 32 hours per week.
• Wear volunteer shirt and name badge.
• Sign a volunteer agreement form.
• Maintain accurate volunteer service sheet on daily activities/hours worked and have supervisor sign off at correct intervals.
• Work is performed at high elevation (5700ft+) in every weather condition. Volunteers working outdoors must be prepared for extreme temperature changes, precipitation, insects, and smoke from forest fires. Volunteers working primarily indoors should be prepared for frequent power outages and adverse weather. Volunteers should anticipate these conditions and prepare accordingly.
• Must be able to rove campground at least 2 times per day, at own pace. This will be equivalent to at least a few miles per day.

Qualifications - Must be at least 18 years old, enjoy working with people from varied backgrounds, be willing to learn about the park, and aid park visitors.

Training - training will be provided.

Equipment - All necessary equipment will be provided to accomplish expected duties apart from pants/shorts and footwear.

Housing - There is a camp host spot with full hookups. Campground Hosts must have their own RV.

Available Dates - We have opportunities for Campground Host volunteers during the months of August-November, April -July.
