Summer Transition Academy Volunteers

The Summer Transitions Academy at Denfeld High School is a program that helps students entering 9th grade
gain confidence and comfort as they transition into the High School Experience. We are looking for 5 Volunteers
that are interested in Phy Ed activities, examples ranging from canoeing, ballroom dancing, yoga and many more
physical activities. We are also looking for volunteers who are interested in leading Civics lessons, the social
science dealing with the rights and duties of citizens.

This program has been designed to help staff, volunteers, and students engage with one another, identify goals
and reach outcomes so at the beginning of the new school year there is an understanding of what's going on, a
sense of comfort, and respect between both the staff and students. Having volunteers involved and becoming a
part of the process is an important part of the students' learning and we look forward to working with interested
volunteers. Our volunteers really allow these programs to be successful. Thank you for your support.

Our goals/ outcomes:
- Increased confidence of Denfeld High School Students
-Identify interests and have the ability to set goals for the school year
-Students' ability to network and gain skills that encourage them to start highschool as leaders.
-Feeling academically ready for freshman year
-Understanding how to do things as a student
-The ability to ask questions confidently and work through problems successfully.

So far, this program has been successful in prior years and has increased student engagement!

About Duluth Community School Collaborative

32 E 1ST St, Ste 202, Duluth, MN 55802, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to foster community partnerships promoting wellness and school success for youth and families, creating a community of life-long learners that embraces diversity.

The Duluth Community School Collaborative is a nonprofit that provides services in several Duluth Public Schools, including Myers-Wilkins Elementary School, Lincoln Park Middle, and Denfeld High. These schools serve families with higher rates of poverty than many others in the District. Poverty often leads to academic under-performance, and limited access to the educational, social, and cultural enrichment opportunities.

The Duluth Community School Collaborative works with community organizations and individuals to support academic success and well-being of the whole child. We provide academic support, enrichment, arts and cultural activities, employment readiness, health-related services, and various other programming to holistically meet students' needs at our three sites.

The impact of these services extends far beyond the walls of the school, benefiting neighborhoods, partner organizations, businesses, and the city of Duluth.
