Who We Are - A Non-Profit Supporting Adults with Developmental Disabilities

For over 60 years, Las Trampas has been a provider of choice delivering much needed services and programs to adults with developmental disabilities, including (Autism, IDD, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and other similar conditions). Founded in 1958 as a non-profit residential school by parents, family, and community members, our philosophy has always been that persons with developmental disabilities are entitled to develop their optimum state of social, physical, and mental well-being, and share an integrated lifestyle similar to what non-disabled persons are fortunate to enjoy. Currently, Las Trampas provides day program educational and vocational services, residential services, supported and independent living services throughout Contra Costa County.

Board Members Needed with Employment Law Expertise

Las Trampas supports adults with developmental disabilities in Lafayette, CA and we are searching for dedicated Board candidates with legal expertise in Corporate Law to strengthen the Board’s understanding of the legal implications of its decisions and to bring a broader legal perspective to Board deliberations. In particular, the Board is seeking individuals with in-house corporate counsel experience or has previously counseled boards, or worked with non-profits.

Desired Legal Qualifications:

· Bring expertise in corporate law to help the Las Trampas Board keep abreast with new business laws and developments in the industry

· Competency with California wage and hour laws and compliance

· Knowledge on a broad range of compliance, governance issues, employee benefits structuring, and board resolutions .

· Consult and advise on a wide range of custom and standard agreements .

· Help Executive Director and HR Director prepare legal documents and oversee trial cases and hearings as needed.

· A keen ability to grasp complex legal and business issues quickly; balance risks; draw sound conclusions; and provide creative, practical, constructive and timely counsel in a dynamic environment.

· Provide strategic legal counsel and general business law support as needed.

· Oversee contract management, monitoring and tracking.

· Help develop policies and procedures with the HR Manager andExecutive Director as needed.

· Help manage external legal resources.

Ideally, we are looking for a corporate attorney with expertise in business and employment law. One who is experienced with employment litigation cases, complex employment disputes and client advocacy. We are seeking an individual who is well versed in legal research and keeps up to date with employment law, ensuring adherence to the latest legal and compliance standards. Interested candidates should possess strong leadership, business acumen, and communication skills. Desired backgrounds include prior professional legal expertise in the nonprofit or for-profit sector.
