Position Overview:

The Volunteer Marketing Coordinator is a vital volunteer role responsible for creating and implementing the marketing strategy for Big Brothers Big Sisters of SLO County’s annual Dodge for a Cause fundraiser. Reporting to the Event Committee Chair, the Volunteer Marketing Coordinator will manage all promotional activities to ensure maximum visibility and participation in the event.

Key Responsibilities:

Marketing Strategy and Planning

- Identify target audiences and tailor marketing efforts to reach these groups effectively.

Content Creation and Management

- In coordination with graphic design coordinator, c reate engaging content for various platforms, including social media, email newsletters, and the organization's website.

- Design promotional materials such as flyers, posters, and banners.

- Ensure all content aligns with Big Brothers Big Sisters of SLO County's branding and messaging guidelines.

Social Media Management

- Manage and regularly update the organization’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) with event-related posts.

- Develop and execute social media campaigns to generate excitement and awareness.

- Monitor social media engagement and respond to comments and messages in a timely manner .

Email Marketing

- Design and send out email newsletters to the organization’s mailing list to promote the event.

- Track and analyze email campaign performance to optimize future efforts.

Community Outreach

- Establish partnerships with local media outlets, community organizations, and influencers to broaden event reach.

- Coordinate with local businesses to display event promotional materials and support cross-promotion efforts.

Event Promotion and Public Relations

- Write and distribute press releases to local media to secure coverage of the event.

- Develop and maintain relationships with media contacts to ensure ongoing publicity for the event.

Analytics and Reporting

- Track the performance of marketing efforts and provide regular reports to the Event Committee Chair.


- Strong understanding of marketing principles and best practices.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Proficiency in social media platforms and content creation tools.

- Creative, resourceful, and community-minded.

- Enthusiasm for the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters and a commitment to making a positive impact.

Time Commitment:

- Immediate start with a commitment through the conclusion of the event and post-event debrief.

- Approximately 5 hours per week leading up to the event, with additional hours required as the event date approaches.


- Opportunity to lead the marketing efforts for a significant fundraising event.

- Build and showcase skills in marketing, social media management, and public relations.

- Contribute to a meaningful cause and make a tangible difference in the lives of local youth.
