ORGANIZATION: NPower

NPower has created a special volunteering opportunity that supports aspiring tech leaders with mentorship!

NPower’s e-mentoring program will welcome another cohort of App Development students eager to pursue their professional goals with a mentor. At a glance, App Development is one of NPower’s latest and exciting cohorts supporting untapped talent from low to moderate income communities ready to claim their space in tech and undergo an accelerated learning experience in under six months.

Help NPower reach its current goal of 50 mentors to support their App Development students. If you would like to join NPower’s mentorship program and change the life of a mentee in as little as 30 minutes a week, please visit: https://www.npower.org/mentor/

This is a great opportunity to help to change the trajectory of a trainee’s life by being a trusted advisor to share insight on navigating the workplace culture, share professional, leadership experience, support in identifying career goals, and boosting their confidence - all while developing your own leadership skills.

We currently have hundreds of NPower students that are hoping to be matched with a mentor as they transition later this spring to launch their careers in tech.

Previous mentoring experience is not required.

About NPower

Location:

55 Washington St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, US

Mission Statement

NPower creates pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for military veterans and young adults from under-represented communities.

Description

We focus on two populations that experience barriers to employment - low-income veterans and young adults (ages 18-26) - and give them the support, skills, and industry-recognized certification needed to fill in-demand tech jobs. We offer our program free of charge to those who need us most - men and women earning less than 200% of the federal poverty level - and they primarily come from racial and socioeconomic backgrounds underrepresented in the tech industry. Our work addresses some of the biggest challenges of our times: racial inequities in access to education and opportunity, rampant unemployment, and lack of diversity in the tech workforce.

Founded in 2000, NPower has grown to operate in various markets across the country: New York, New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, Texas, and California.
