Could you help a health charity set up a community pharmacy in the UK? The Africa Health Organisation (AHO) is preparing to enter the community pharmacy business to dispense medicines.

Community Pharmacy

We are looking for a qualified pharmacist to help Arica Health Organisation (AHO) establish a community pharmacy in London to dispense medicine in Africa and the UK.

Role and Responsibilities

  1. Provide advice and guidance to AHO about establishing the community pharmacy business in the UK and all the required rules and regulations.
  2. Write a business plan: Work with a professional Business Plan writer to write the pharmacy business plan which is an essential document to establish a community pharmacy. It should include information on the pharmacy’s target market, its competition, and its strategies for marketing, operations, and finance.
  3. Find investment: You will help find funding for the community pharmacy business on behalf of the Africa Health Organisation (AHO).
  4. Find suitable premises: Community pharmacy businesses need to be situated in areas with high foot traffic and good visibility, easily accessible by public transportation. The pharmacy should have enough space to accommodate a retail area, a consultation room, and storage.
  5. Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council: To register the pharmacy business with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPC)

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

To qualify as a Community Pharmacist Specialist in the UK, you must have:

  • completed a General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)-accredited Masters degree in pharmacy (MPharm)
  • completed a period of one-year paid pre-registration training in a GPhC-approved community pharmacy, under supervision
  • At least three years of experience working in a pharmacy environment at a senior level.
  • passed the GPhC registration assessment
  • and met the GPhC fitness to practice requirements for registration as a pharmacist.

In addition, you need:

  • excellent communication skills - you must listen carefully to what patients say, as well as explain complex and sometimes sensitive information to the general public and other healthcare professionals
  • the ability to work with others in a multidisciplinary team, as well as to lead others in a team
  • concern for the welfare of the general public
  • accuracy and meticulous attention to detail
  • a methodical approach to work
  • an understanding of business principles
  • high levels of customer service
  • a professional and confident manner
  • the ability to inspire the trust of others
  • that you understand and can apply the law in terms of the storage and dispensing of medicines
  • a willingness to take on a high level of responsibility.

Impact to the community

The community pharmacy will provide better and quality access to medicines by the most disadvantaged people in the community. It will improve people's health and lengthen their lives. It will contribute to the government's strategy on improving access to medicines and reduce waiting times that people take to receive their medicines.
