When you volunteer at the Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary’s nature store, you are part of the action at our gorgeous location in Bernardsville, NJ. You'll be meeting members, visitors and staff while ringing up sales on the user-friendly computerized cash register and answering questions in person and on the phone. Store duties include counting the register at the start and end of each day, feeding turles, putting out bird feeders, watering plants, assisting customers, locking up at the end of the day, and lifting a 40-lb bag of brid seend into the customer's car trunk. Knowldge of birds and binoculars is not necessary, but enthusiam for birds and the outdoors is. Our volunteers enjoy trading stories with customers, and we all learn something from each other. We're looking for volunteers for Saturdays for either an 8 hour shift or a 4 hour shift.

The New Jersey Audubon Society (New Jersey Audubon) is one of the oldest and largest conservation organizations in New Jersey. Description

In order to achieve its purpose, New Jersey Audubon, through its Board of Directors, professional staff, members, and volunteers, endeavors to:

  • Develop, encourage, and support sound conservation practices, programs, and legislation.
  • Disseminate information on the natural environment through education programs, information services, and publications.
  • Advance knowledge of New Jersey's flora and fauna, and their relationships to the habitats on which they depend, through field research.
  • Acquire, establish, and maintain wildlife sanctuaries and educational centers.

New Jersey Audubon maintains stewardship of 34 sanctuaries and conducts its programs through nine staffed facilities.
