About RLC
Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) is a national 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to redistributing excess food from businesses to nonprofits serving people experiencing food insecurity. We work alongside our dedicated network of food rescuers and partner with organizations of all sizes and sectors, to repurpose surplus ranging from as little as 5 pounds to as much as 500+ pallets. Our mission is to reduce food waste, promote sustainability, and enhance food security. Since RLC was founded in 2013, we’ve rescued over 17 million pounds of food, prevented 37M+ pounds of emissions, and provided 13M+ meals to communities in need.
Why RLC
We’re passionate about food rescue and its potential to eliminate hunger
We work hard, but we have fun doing it: monthly team-building activities, cooking competitions, and more!
We aim high: we’ve grown every year, in terms of both new partners and pounds of food rescued, and we’re projected to continue that growth trend each year moving forward
Responsibilities:
RLC Food Donor Photos: The photographer must reach out through email or phone to one of our food donor locations, and ask if they’d like to participate in a food donor appreciation post on social media. They must set up the date/time/event which works best for both parties. Photos should include a mix of staff, volunteers, food, group photos, action shots, and interiors of the establishment. Upload the photos to Google Drive.
Nonprofit Recipient Photos: The photographer must reach out through email or phone to one of our nonprofit recipients (homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and food pantries) and ask if they’d like to participate in an appreciation post on social media. The photographer must set up the date/time/event which works best for both parties. Since our partners are very sensitive about consent, make sure that you are given the proper permission from anyone that you photograph. Upload the photos to Google Drive.
Food Rescue Tour Photos: The photographer must attend any RLC in-person events that are required of them. These include our yearly Spring gala and our food rescue tour program. A food rescue tour is a corporate volunteer engagement in which a company will receive an educational and hands-on tour of one of our food rescue events.
Volunteer of the Week: The photographer must choose a volunteer on the RLC website who has completed 10 or more of our food rescue events. They will reach out and set up a time to photograph and interview them for our social media pages.
*We are open to and actively seeking other more creative types of content, so you are not limited to these types of photos. This is really just more of a guideline.
Weekly meetings over Zoom:
We will meet once a week over Zoom to discuss content and to brainstorm creatively about ideas.
Helping the staff videographer with video content:
Experience as a DP/Cinematographer is welcomed but not required. This would entail helping the staff videographer create video content about Rescuing Leftover Cuisine. This role includes video editing, lighting, and camera work. *This would only be once or twice per month.

RLC interns have the chance to work closely with the executive team and have the opportunity to make a true, meaningful impact in their time with the organization. This is a part-time, unpaid internship, although interns will be reimbursed for travel if local to an operational RLC branch and actively complete food rescue pickups. Interns are expected to work not more than 20 hours per week, the start date is in June 2025 with an end date in August 2025. Students should consult with academic faculty to determine if this unpaid experience will earn credit.
