The President of the Rocky Butte Farmers Market (RBFM) is a key role in the future success of our market. The role of the President is to develop, guide, navigate and champion this vision for RBFM. We are looking for a new President to join in mid-2024, with a three-year term, who will have volunteer responsibilities and experience as follows:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Vision & Culture

  • Leads the team in strategic planning, setting the short- and long-term goals and ensuring RBFM stays mission centered and outcome oriented
  • Partnering with market employees, Board members and volunteers to set the organizational tone and culture

Board and Staff Management

  • Convenes the Board of Directors for monthly meetings as well as any relevant planning events.
  • In partnership with the Secretary, ensures the conventions of meetings are being followed and that there is fairness and equality in meeting agendas and conversations,
  • Monitors progress of Board committees and aligns their work with organizational mission and goals.

Program Execution

  • Leads the organization’s planning processes
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and assesses the organization’s programs (including their impact)
  • Informs, and supports the board and the board committees to help carry out their governance functions

Budget Management & Fundraising

  • Developing, implementing, monitoring, and assessing sound and compliant financial management practices (including budgeting), in partnership with the Board Treasurer
  • Developing, implementing, monitoring, and assessing sound and compliant fundraising practices
  • Working with the development staff & volunteers in cultivating and soliciting major foundation grants and individual gifts
  • Developing and maintaining beneficial relationships with donors, funders, supporters, collaborators, allies, vendors, and other stakeholders

Communications & Engagement:

  • Ensuring effective external communications about the organization and its mission, priorities, importance, programs, and activities
  • Championing the organization and advocating its mission to internal and external stakeholders

Compliance:

  • In partnership with the other Board Officers, ensuring legal compliance (including all required filings) and sound risk management practices
  • Keeping the Board and team informed of significant developments and changes in the internal and external environment

EXPERIENCE & CHARACTERISTICS

  • Demonstrated success as a Board committee chair or board member
  • Passion for supporting local food systems
  • Enthusiasm and desire for building new relationships, connections and networks for RBFM
  • Experience managing/directing a team
  • Strong financial acumen, ability to understand market financial needs and risks
  • Able to commit 2-5+ hours per week to RBFM related needs

Established in 2019, Rocky Butte Farmers Market's (RBFM) mission is to provide NE Portland, Oregon residents with access to affordable, seasonal, locally grown foods and artisan products with a primary goal of lowering barriers to market participation for beginning and under-represented vendors. RBFM exists to strengthen connections within our diverse community by providing a safe, welcoming, fun, educational, and inclusive community gathering space.

Description

Rocky Butte Farmers Market has its roots in volunteerism. Entirely volunteer-created and majority volunteer-run, RBFM is grateful for the hard work of volunteers. We are a determined and friendly group of neighbors working towards increased food access in our community.
