Save to Favorites

A Way Home for Dogs is a small nonprofit dog rescue with a 10-acre kennel facility and ranch in Jamul. In order to keep their dogs safe from heat and fire, they are in desperate need ofvolunteers to assist with repairs at the facility.

Volunteer tasks will include: installing shade sails, kennel fence repair, installing a misting system, building kennels (fence panel system), loading trash, junk removal, and brush removal. There will be **NO ANIMAL HANDLING** involved with this opportunity.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

Attire: Closed-toe shoes and long pants are required. This opportunity takes place outdoors with little or no shade so volunteers should wear sun protection such as sunscreen and a hat.

Bring: Work gloves and ear plugs (if noise sensitive). This is a kennel facility with 70 dogs so barking will happen,

Physical Requirements: They need volunteers who are able to climb ladders or step stools and have good upper body strength. Volunteers will also need to be able to bend, lift, pull, and drag. All volunteers will be expected to follow specific dog safety protocols to keep dogs and humans safe. Do not sign up if you are sensitive to animal smells. Unfortunately this opportunity is not able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations and the space where this project takes place is not wheelchair accessible.

Waiver: Volunteers will need to sign the A Way Home for Dogs waiver when they arrive on-site.

Weather: Jamul is known for being hotter than most of San Diego. Unless extreme heat (over 90) is planned, this is an all weather event.

Photos: Because this is a private residence, they would prefer no photos. If you take them and want to post them, please get approval from the organization's founder first.

Note: This is a kennel facility with 70 barking dogs, as well as a ranch. There is uneven ground, hills, partially paved roads and lots of dust.

You must download the HandsOn Connect app to your smart device to electronically sign the waiver and check in at this volunteer opportunity. The HandsOn Connect App can be downloaded from the Apple Store and Google Play. Volunteers that do not sign in will automatically be marked as not attending at midnight the day of their shift.

About A Way Home For Dogs

The mission of A Way Home For Dogs is to provide free pet recovery service assisting owners with their lost pets on a global scale, as well as securing evasive street strays. When the strays are secured, they process them through the local shelter system. If those dogs don't get claimed and are deemed not adoptable, they enter them into their rescue, pending space. A Way Home For Dogs gives the dogs the time they need to decompress and show them who they are, before they start the rehabilitation process.
