Volunteer Attorney Needed for Disabled Tenants' Rights and Landlord-Tenant Issues

Are you a passionate attorney with a heart for advocacy? We urgently seek legal assistance for a Dad and wonderful daughter facing challenges in their apartment involved in a landlord-tenant dispute. Your expertise can make a significant difference in ensuring fair treatment, accessibility, and justice for these residents.

Position: Volunteer Attorney for Disabled Tenants
Location: Miami Dade

Responsibilities:

  • Provide immediate legal advice and representation to disabled tenants.
  • Ensure compliance with the Fair Housing Act and ADA.
  • Advocate for necessary accommodations and modifications.
  • Address issues of discrimination, neglect, and harassment.
  • Collaborate with local housing authorities and organizations.
  • File necessary legal documents to prevent unjust eviction and ensure the tenants' rights are upheld.
  • Advocate for a peaceful living environment until tenants can safely relocate.

Case Overview: Our tenants include a father (71 years old, insulin diabetic, with a chronic heart condition) and his daughter (legally blind and with Asperger's Syndrome), both of whom are legally disabled. Despite always paying rent on time, they are facing harassment from the owner's granddaughter, who has threatened to shut off the lights and air conditioning, making living conditions unbearable. The owner has expressed a desire to evict them, but the tenants need a few months to gather enough money to move. Please Help!

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in Florida.
  • Experience in housing law, landlord-tenant law, and disability rights.
  • Strong advocacy, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Empathy and dedication to advocating for vulnerable populations.

Why Join Us?

  • Make a tangible impact in the lives of disabled tenants and a family in need.
  • Work in a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and community engagement.
  • Support a family integral to a charity that benefits hundreds of students.

If you're committed to justice and equality, we'd love to hear from you. Please send your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience and passion for this role to [Your Contact Information].

Together, we can create a more inclusive and fair living environment for all.
