Greeter - This is an in-person role with lots of flexibility. READ ALL.

SEND RESUME or COVER LETTER (statement of interest) TO MAISIE via EMAIL: maisie@thewestendmuseum.org
Maisie will be in touch about training sessions.
After training you will be added to the Backup Volunteers list.

The West End Museum is seeking volunteers to support in visitor assistance and operational duties. Specifically, the Museum is seeking several Backups to occasionally fill in for Greeters and Exhibit Attendants.

Our volunteer shifts are full but we are seeking to build a community of Backup Volunteers for when our volunteers are unable to attend their shifts. If you are interested in being a Backup Greeter, read on.

You will attend one volunteer training in person. After completing training you will then be added to an email list. When a shift opens up, an email will be sent to the Backup Volunteers list and if you are interested you can either respond to accept it or ignore the email. If you accept, Maisie will reach out to confirm date/times with you. Backup Greeters will be contacted on somewhat short notice but are never required to accept the shifts offered.

In these roles, volunteers will have the opportunity to engage with visitors, support at the front desk, and contribute to the overall success of our exhibits. Volunteers may be involved in tasks such as supporting in the exhibit halls and at events, assisting in operations of the museum by handling admissions, and guiding visitors as a greeter/docent.

As the cohort of volunteers from this season moves on, the backup greeters will be given first priority to fill the regular shift openings.

When representing The West End Museum to the public, volunteers are expected to embody the museum's mission and values, ensuring a positive and informative experience for visitors. Volunteers should possess a passion for history, excellent communication skills, and a friendly demeanor.

Key expectations include:

  • Strong self-motivated work ethic, flexibility, and availability to attend in person for at least 6 hrs when assigned a shift.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with a wide range of people.
  • Interest in history, Boston, urban cultures, built environments, etc.

Responsibilities Include

  • Greet and assist visitors as they navigate the museum and Exhibits.
  • Handle the sale of museum admission, merchandise, and process small donations.
