Mission Statement

Following the United Nations, the National Forum on Information Literacy, and the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions' "Alexandria Proclamation" that Information Literacy is "...a basic human right" the UiLA will focus on increasing critical thinking skills through Information Literacy to help the most vulnerable youth of the world for a good, more inclusive and better informed 21st century sustainable Global Information Society.

Description

The Universal Information Literacies Association (UiLA) is an IRS 501(c)(3) subcategory 509(a)(2) International Professional Nonprofit Educational Public Charity Association. Co-founded in Washington, DC in 2021 by Paul G. Zurkowski, Esq., who identified, named and launched Information Literacy in 1974 and founding President Jeffrey "JK" Kelly, M.A.T. The UiLA's goal is to increase the Information Literacy/critical thinking rate globally from, 17% of the United States working population in 1974 & 23% of all ages worldwide in 2021 as estimated by Zurkowski, to 33% by 2025 and 51+% by 2030 focusing on the most vulnerable youth of the world. The UiLA has established the "Zurkowski Award" that will go to the most Information Literate country/community and individual of the world and the most Information Literate US state/community and individual.
