We are looking for chefs or wannabe chefs, to bring their culinary skills to our Rising Oaks Program, am apartment complex located on our Oakland campus that provides a new lease on life for 30 foster youth aging out of the child welfare system.

Rising Oaks provides housing and comprehensive support services for 30 former foster youth and non-minor dependents of Alameda County who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness. Each youth lives in a modern studio apartment and receives personalized services ranging from individual and family therapy to life skills training and leadership development. Residents range from 18-24 and are either employed or enrolled in an education or vocational program.

The Opportunity

Once a month, Rising Oaks youth gather for a community meal in the complex's courtyard. We are looking for folks to BBQ on-site or bring a meal for 35 (youth plus staff) for everyone to enjoy as a community. This is a wonderful opportunity to break bread with our participants and learn more about their dreams and future plans as they step into adulthood.

While this is a one-off opportunity, we hope to find a longer-term relationship with a service group or church.
