ORGANIZATION: HOPE AGAINST TRAFFICKING

  • 7 people are interested

Hope Against Trafficking is looking for helpful volunteers to work directly with the survivors in hopes to help our mission grow. We are stronger and more supportive with the help of volunteers!

Volunteer needs:

1.) We are looking for driver support. This is a huge supportive role for us and for the survivors to thrive. This would include to appointments, job interviews, events and outside groups they may attend throughout the day and possible evenings.

2.) We are looking for someone who could facilitate an in-depth financial literacy course. This is key to the recovery and empowerment of the survivors! This will help break the finacial bondage that has been placed on them.

3.) Survivor Mentorship. One of the biggest needs of each survivor we work with a postive, strong community to offer her support and encouragement. You would serve as a connection to new experiences and oppurtunities. This provides survivors with additional people to learn from and build healthy relationships with. Mentors play an important role in the healing process of a survivor. As survivors exit a situation of exploitation, they often have difficulty seeing their own value and worth. So defeated by those who have exploited them and even some of the systems of care who have tried to help, they accepted a false narrative about their ability to live full, prosperous lives. Mentors can help shine a light on the numerous strengths of survivors, encouraging them to reclaim their identity as strong, worthy human beings.

4.) Cooking class. Someone who is willing to do a cooking class with the survivors 3 wednesdays out of each month. Helps teach them to cultivate a menu and cook different styles and types of meals. The volunteer will also have "family" dinner with us to enjoy what they have created!

5.) Volunteers for lead groups. What talent do you have that you would love to provide to our survivors. Yoga, sewing, knitting, gardening, anything that would bring education and joy to our program. If you are certified in psycho-therapy groups you could offer, CPR classes, really open to a range of classes to add to our program!

All volunteers will fill out an application, a background check, and a very heavily informed training and orientation.

Mentorship program will have a more in-depth training and will include support and great communication from staff.

Volunteers help build a strong and supportive community for survivors of sex trafficking, sexual abuse, and sexual assault. You can enrich their lives, strengthen them, and be a part of the community that fosters HOPE and independence.

Mission Statement

Our core mission here at Hope Against Trafficking is to provide long-term, safe environments and comprehensive support for adult survivors of human trafficking. Learn how we're dedicated to creating a world where these survivors can thrive and reclaim their lives.

Description

Hope Against Trafficking is a non-profit organization answering the call for safe housing and restorative support for adult female survivors of sex and labor trafficking in Southeast Michigan. We offer Magdalene Detroit - a 24-month residential program that provides rent-free housing and comprehensive services focused on physical, mental and economic transformation. Survivors are referred to us by law enforcement, prominent social service organizations, correctional facilities, and street outreach programs. Many have been caught in a cycle of addiction and sexual or economic exploitation which has been induced through threat, force, or coercion. Some have served unwarranted jail time. All come to Magdalene Detroit broken, fearful and in need. Their journey to wholeness begins when they are welcomed into a new home and given a key, a bed, every day essentials, professional trauma-informed therapy, and most importantly, compassion, empathy and hope. They join a sisterhood of healing and restored women who know their plight. When they leave, they are whole, transformed, and empowered to live their lives with joy, dignity and independence. With your help, we bring HOPE against the devastating effects of human trafficking, HOPE for stronger communities, and HOPE for the restoration of women survivors
