Purpose: The Volunteer Receptionist helps set the tone to ensure a welcoming and positive experience for participants, guests and staff. This is a customer service position, with responsibilities that include greeting visitors, answering multi-line phones, and monitoring the reception lobby.
Duties:
- Greet visitors and direct them to appropriate staff
- Answer and direct incoming phone calls in a timely and polite manner
- Manage interactions with professionalism, including boundaries and confidentiality of participants and staff.
- Retrieve and forward voicemails.
- Process and distribute mail to staff folders.
- Contact clients that need appointment reminders.
Expectations: All volunteers are expected to stay within the boundaries of their job, maintain participant confidentiality, and abide by the policies stated in the volunteer handbook. Ability to interact with diverse populations.
Qualifications:
- The volunteer receptionist should be friendly, compassionate, and enjoy interaction with other.
- Have a sincere and natural desire to do what it takes to help others, including visitors and callers.
- Abilities include problem solving, active listening, and strong communication skills;
- Microsoft (MS) Office experience is required.
Training: The following will be provided by JFCS’ Administrative Professionals Team:
- MS Outlook email and calendaring
- Client check-in process
- Opening and distributing mail
- Voicemail software
- Multi-line phone
- Faxing and copying
- Safety training

Description
Jewish Family and Children's Service is a multi-faceted social service agency serving adults, children, families, frail elderly, refugees, the disabled, the disadvantaged and the chronically mentally ill. Services are available to people regardless of race, religion, income or background. Our services extend to both the Jewish and general community.
