Mission Statement

Grandmothers’ Village Project is a nonprofit intentional community organization developed to house our BIPOC grandmothers/fathers in an environmentally safe and ecologically sound Grandmothers’ Village. We’ll foster a healthy and sustainable environment; promote social, economic, environmental, housing, food, and spiritual justice, and strengthen democracy for our BIPOC Elder Women/Grandmothers, and Grandfathers with Spirit and Ceremony at the core.

Description

Our What: Our Mission: To foster a healthy and sustainable environment; promote social, economic, environmental, housing, food, and spiritual justice, and strengthen democracy for our marginalized Elder Women/Grandmothers, and Grandfathers.

Our small organization, comprised of three founding Board Members, is seeking to build our Executive Board and Ambassador Committees. We invite you to join us in shaping the direction and achieving the goals of our organization.

Our Who: Elders are a forgotten population, full of wisdom, but often neglected. Our elders are crucial to our culture and society. Our focus is on supporting self-identified Indigenous, Black, Hispanic, Asian, and other Elders of Color aged 50 and older reversing the systemic neglect these elders face.

Future inclusivity goals: 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, grandparents with custody of grandchildren, veterans, families, and teens aging out of foster care. These goals reflect our commitment to creating communities that embrace diversity and provide a safety net for those facing inequities in mainstream society.

Our Why: Many Intentional Communities (ICs) exist throughout the US and abroad, but racial and ethnic marginalized groups often are made to feel uncomfortable and/or inferior (Source: Foundation of Intentional Communities). Grandmothers' Village Project will be the first in the US to establish green, zero-emissions, eco-sustainable, subsidized housing for low and moderate-income ethnic minority elders.
