The Civil Air Patrol, Oak Ridge Composite Squadron is seeking a volunteer to serve the Oak Ridge community as our Squadron NCO Advisor. Oak Ridge Composite serves the local community through three main missions; Cadet Programs, Aerospace Education, and Emergency Services. Because Civil Air Patrol is an all-volunteer and non-profit organization we rely heavily on the volunteer spirit of our members.

Former military personnel are a vital asset through demonstrating core leadership, discipline and attention to detail skills that underly every cadet's experience. As an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, these core skills play an integral part in the development of all cadets, should they choose a life serving within the U.S. Armed Forces or not.

If you have a current military ID card, DD-214, promotion or other official order indicating your rank, Civil Air Patrol can put stripes back on your sleeves. Civil Air Patrol NCOs are predominantly Military Veteran NCO and Staff NCOs, having transferred their initial CAP rank in the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corp, Coast Guard, Space Force, Reserves, or National Guard.

Civil Air Patrol NCOs can do any job in CAP, including pilot if qualified, with the single exception of command. CAP NCOs are the professional trainers, technicians, managers, planners, superintendents and leaders that push to successfully complete the missions assigned.

Requirements

  • Applicant must be an active, reserve, honorably discharged, or retired enlisted member of the US Armed Forces. All services welcome.
  • Applicant must have proof of at least a grade of E-4 or higher while in service.
  • Applicant must be available to regularly attend meetings Tuesday evenings.

Squadron NCO’s will

  • Participate in the decision-making process, as appropriate, on technical, operational and organizational issues.
  • Work closely with their commander and their group’s NCO advisor and/or wing’s command NCO.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the squadron commander.
  • Encourage NCO mentorship of cadets and junior officer CAP members.
  • Encourage the recruitment of enlisted service members currently serving or retired from military service for CAP membership.

Civil Air Patrol can offer training for those that want to learn and hone new career skills. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older. Wear of a uniform is occasionally required. Membership application fees apply.
