Job Title: Project Manager

Job Purpose: The Project Manager is in charge of coordinating the execution of translation and interpretation projects from start to finish (asylum cases, domestic violence police records, educational materials for immigrant families integrating a new school system, etc). This person will manage multiple projects at the same time from multiple partner organizations, mostly for all languages programs with no designated Project Manager.

Please note that we take on a variety of different language access projects, ranging from essential resources to direct casework for asylum seekers. This means that the majority of the projects you will be responsible for is extremely high stakes work that directly impacts the livelihood and life of asylum seekers and others directly impacted by carceral and state violence. Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Coordinating and supervising the project management for translation and interpretation cases. Responsibilities include:

    • Communicate with the partners directly about the project needs and expectations

    • Analyze the request, determine feasibility, and plan the implementation accordingly; this may range from scheduling back-up translators or interpreters, to including additional days for proofreading

    • Connect the partner’s needs with the translator(s) or interpreter(s) best suited for the project; this may mean looping in other Project Managers where appropriate

    • Coordinate the appropriate payments and deadlines for the project

    • Proofread, screen, and edit the final version of the translations as applicable to the project, before submitting them to the point of contact; this includes checking for missing materials, or editing formats

    • Follow-up with partners and translators/interpreters after the project to strengthen the professional relationship and continuously improve the workflow processes

    • Keep track of all simultaneous projects in a timely and organized manner

    • Resolve any issues that arise during the project in a timely and organized manner

    • Close coordination with your team lead and fellow project managers to ensure cases are completed efficiently and at the highest quality

  • Coordinating and managing screening of new translators and interpreters. Responsibilities include:

    • Review translation screening samples and give detailed feedback to the linguist

    • Schedule and lead oral screening interviews in collaboration with team lead and project managers

    • Track screening process in Airtable screening system

    • Onboard translators and interpreters onto the team who pass written or or oral screening

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience working with Google Drive, specifically as it relates to shared Drives and working collaboratively with these tools

  • Experience or interest in learning Airtable (or comparable relational database software)

  • Coordination, collaboration, planning, and organizing skills

  • Ability to work under pressure, resolve issues quickly, and multi-task effectively

  • Some experience in account management

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to foster a supportive and warm team culture

  • Translation/Interpreting degree/experience preferred, but not required (in the absence of this: equivalent experience is important as well as excellent written and grammatical skills. Example of ¨equivalent experience¨: a social worker who has worked in multilingual contexts)

Respond Crisis Translation is a network of volunteer translators providing compassionate, effective, and trauma-informed interpretation and translation services for migrants, refugees, and anyone experiencing language barriers.

Respond Crisis Translation values language democracy and believe in the right to equality of access and services for people of any and all nationalities, origins, and native languages. We provide translation and interpretation support for over 500 NGOs, human rights groups and lawyers, and nonprofits that provide pro bono support to refugees and asylum seekers. We support over 100 languages and have over 700 volunteers around the world.
