Unity Ice Academy is seeking experienced, reliable, patient, and enthusiastic volunteer camp counselors for our program who can bring fun learning lessons to our campers off the ice.
Why: Volunteering at Unity Ice Academy's ice skating summer camp that offers free access to underprivileged children, particularly those from black and brown communities, provides the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of these children by introducing them to a new experience, fostering their growth and development, and breaking down barriers that may have limited their opportunities.
Who: Unity Ice Academy is a new 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to provide free access to and free coaching in the sport of ice skating to children in the inner city of Los Angeles who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it. Each summer, Unity Ice Academy hosts an ice skating summer camp for 65 deserving children between the ages of 5-13 to be able to learn how to ice skate, gain valuable life lessons, be inspired by guest speakers, take fun field trips and much, much more!
What to Expect:
The volunteer camp counselors will work with the kids OFF the ice and lead the campers through our weekly camp sessions, daily lessons, and field trips.
Provide small-group instruction to campers, focusing on character development through engaging lesson plans and activities.
Lead and guide groups through fun and educational activities that promote teamwork, creativity, and personal growth.
Ensure smooth transitions between activities, including assisting campers with their ice skates, fostering a positive and respectful environment.
What's Required:
NO ICE SKATING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! This is an off ice position.
The camp starts July 8 and goes to August 2. It is Monday- Friday from 7 am- 12 pm. Ideal volunteers can commit to all of camp, but volunteers available certain days *each* week or certain weeks should also apply.
Volunteers must be able to get to the camp is located at an ice skating rink in Lakewood, CA each day.
Specifically looking for volunteers with experience with elementary and/or middle school children, child care or camp counseling.
Background check: A background check will be required to ensure the safety of the children participating in the program.
Passion for working with children, patience and flexibility, strong communication skills, creativity and enthusiasm, reliability and commitment, ability to work in a team, willingness to collaborate with other volunteers and camp staff to ensure the overall success of the program.
Spanish speaking is a plus.

Description
Looking for help from volunteers who have a background in teaching or child care for our ice skating summer camp. The camp starts Juky 8 and goes to August 2. It is Monday- Friday from 7 am- 12 pm. Part of our curriculum is leading character-building activities when the kids are not on the ice. These activities are usually arts and crafts based. Also, looking for general help keeping the kids organized throughout our camp day and help moving the kids from one activity to the next.
