Cold Case Advisor

In this role, we are seeking a candidate who has expertise in cold case investigations and a profound understanding of the power and pitfalls of using OSINT in the sensitive context of missing persons investigations.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Investigative Support:

Provide expert advice on the creation and development of a cold case investigation program, focusing on missing persons. This includes outlining program goals, identifying key challenges, and setting benchmarks for success.

Advise on strategic direction, incorporating best practices in investigative techniques, technology adoption, and collaboration with law enforcement and other agencies.

Case Review and Analysis:

Conduct thorough reviews of unresolved missing persons cases, applying advanced analytical skills to identify overlooked details, potential leads, and new investigative opportunities.

Utilize expertise in OSINT methods to extract and analyze data from publicly available sources, enhancing case understanding and direction.

Tactics and Techniques Advisory:

Provide guidance on specific investigative tactics and techniques applicable to cold case resolution, especially in leveraging OSINT for gathering critical information.

Recommend tools, software, and digital platforms that can aid in data collection, analysis, and management for cold case investigations.

Training and Capacity Building:

Advise on applicable training programs for investigative staff on cold case investigation techniques, with a strong emphasis on OSINT tools, digital forensics, and ethical considerations.

Mentor investigators on strategic thinking, problem-solving in complex cases, and effective use of technology in investigations.

Stakeholder Engagement and Support:

Offer strategic advice on engaging with victims' families, media, and the public to raise awareness and gather support for cold case investigations.

Guide the development of communication strategies that maintain transparency, build public trust, and respect privacy and sensitivity of involved parties.

Policy and Ethical Considerations:

Advise on policy development related to cold case investigations, ensuring alignment with legal standards, ethical guidelines, and best practices in missing persons investigations.

Highlight considerations unique to an OSINT environment, including data privacy, ethical sourcing of information, and the verification of gathered intelligence.

Evaluation and Continuous Improvement:

Assess the effectiveness of the cold case investigation program, recommend adjustments to strategies and practices based on emerging trends, technological advancements, and feedback.

Foster an environment of innovation and responsiveness to the challenges of cold case resolutions.
