✔︎ Looking for a way to make a difference in your local community?

✔︎ Interested in philanthropy but not sure how to get involved?

✔︎ Want to connect with a diverse and driven group of young professionals?

Join the Spruce Foundation to give back and empower Philadelphia youth. We have openings on our Communications, Development, Events, Grants, or Strategic Operations committees. Applications close on June 21, 2024.

Becoming a board member for the Spruce Foundation is an amazing opportunity. We spend many hours making the organization successful and strong. Because Spruce is an ALL VOLUNTEER organization, board members take on the full responsibility for running the Foundation. We plan our own events, do our own marketing, curate our donors, and oversee our grantmaking process. In addition, we are committed to the further development of young philanthropists in Philadelphia, so you can count on participating in additional projects to raise awareness about philanthropy, giving, and generally making our city the best place it can be!

Here’s a breakdown of what’s required of ALL board members:

  1. Attend and actively participate in all monthly board meetings.
  2. Fundraise!
  3. Attend Spruce events.
  4. Be professionally responsive in all communication methods.
  5. Serve on at least one committee and attend and actively participate in that committee’s monthly meetings.
  6. Help to execute the annual fundraiser event.
  7. Promote the Spruce Foundation’s events, accomplishments, and goals to your networks on all communications channels to which you may have access.
  8. Be fiscally responsible to the organization.
  9. Be a constant ambassador to the Spruce Foundation.
  10. Be engaged and communicate - we get that life happens, but we need board members to be upfront and honest about their ability to commit to Spruce and take on projects.
  11. Come prepared to board & committee meetings to collaborate across committees and provide input in Board actions & decisions.
  12. Support achievement of our strategic goals and our commitment to becoming an anti-racist, inclusive organization, including attending board-wide training opportunities.

Mission Statement

The Spruce Foundation empowers emerging leaders in Greater Philadelphia to develop as philanthropists and strengthens the region’s generations to come through fundraising and grantmaking for youth-serving nonprofits.

Description

The Spruce Foundation is an all volunteer non-profit that cultivates next-gen leaders and philanthropists. The goal and mission of our organization is to give back to Philly youth. We raise money each year through events, small donations, and sponsorships to provide grants for emerging, youth-serving Philadelphia non-profits, making the city a better place to live for everyone a little bit more each year.

Our organization started in 2007 as a group of friends who wanted to maximize their giving impact. They met on Spruce Street (hence the name). What grew from that informal giving circle is a structured organization that annually gives back to incredible Philadelphia non-profits. Keeping our focus locally on Philadelphia ensures we are consistent with our main goal: supporting programs that empower, educate, and enrich the city’s best resource: its kids.

The Spruce Foundation is committed to becoming an actively anti-racist organization and integrating diverse, equitable, and inclusive approaches to all our operations, grantmaking, partnerships, and volunteer recruitment.
