ORGANIZATION: MHA Supervised Visitation Program

Visit Hosts are professionally trained community volunteers who assist families by supervising and supporting them as they visit with their children. Volunteers must:

  1. Be 21 years of age
  2. Be willing to commit to 15 hours of training plus ongoing supervision
  3. Consent to Child Abuse Registry and a Criminal History Check
  4. Commit to one year of volunteerism
  5. Be able to help a few hours a week

The mission at Mental Health America of Dutchess County is to make the Hudson Valley a place where anyone can get access to the full spectrum of mental health and addiction services they need, without jumping through unnecessary hoops.

Description

The goals of the Supervised Visitation Program are
1. Guide parents as they cope with their own feelings, respond to the unique needs of their children, and build on the strengths in each family.
2. Supervised Visitation helps parents plan for meaningful visits in a natural and community-based environment whenever possible.
3. Reduce the trauma that children experience from being separated from their families.
4. Increase chances of reunification with their families.
