ORGANIZATION: Canine Companions- Northwest Region (Northern California, Northern Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho


Welcome a breeder dog into your home and your heart to help bring in the next generation of service dogs into the world. We carefully select and breed Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers and crosses of the two and their puppies are destined to become future service dogs, providing greater independence for people with disabilities. Once retired, the breeder dog is spayed or neutered, and you can adopt them as a loving pet.

We're looking for volunteers who can support the full journey or help with a part of it - either way, you’re trained & supported throughout the process!

To qualify, please meet the following requirements:

Location: Live in a reasonable distance to Canine Companions headquarters in Northern California (Santa Rosa); this includes areas up to Reno, Nevada, down to Central California.
Team Work: Open to working closely with Canine Companions veterinary, breeding and canine care staff and other volunteers.
- Provide a healthy diet & exercise for the breeder dog.
- Follow all Canine Companions guidelines & protocols (options to work with experienced volunteer)
- Bring the breeder dog to Canine Companions HQ in Santa Rosa, as requested:
* Males- breeding dates and vet appointments.
* Females- each heat cycle. Option to assist with whelping/delivery using Canine Companions
- Attend Canine Companions training and meetings related to your role (virtual options available).
